A-VIEW by Amrita University trains 10,000 Teachers 25 June, 2012

Creating history in the higher education sector, Amrita University's indigenously developed E-Learning platform, A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World) was used to train 10,000 engineering college teachers recently. IIT Bombay used A-VIEW for a two-week workshop on "Introduction to Research Methodologies" from 25th June to 4th July, 2012. While IIT Bombay provided the methodology for the program, Amrita University provided the technology (software platform).

Honourable Union Minister for Human Resources & Development, Shri Kapil Sibal inaugurated this mega workshop on 25th June, 2012 from his home in New Delhi using A-VIEW. In his keynote address, Shri Sibal said the quality of students ultimately depends upon the quality of teachers. He said "unless we empower our teachers, our children will not be empowered." He added that Amrita University's A-VIEW allows interaction between teachers and students. He said, "It is like sitting in one classroom and this mega workshop happened only because of A-VIEW."

On this occasion, Shri Sibal congratulated IIT Bombay and Amrita University for pioneering this initiative. He said, institutions should collaborate and cooperate to deliver the best for the people and work together with the aim of making India the nation that it deserves to be.

Prof. Deepak Phatak, the leader of the national workshops, IIT Bombay said "We have received tremendous response from various participants (faculty); the teachers were amazed that the knowledge of national experts is available at their doorsteps."

According to Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Director, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab, the teacher empowerment programs help to enhance the skills of the teaching faculty and address the challenge of shortage of qualified teachers, especially in the rural areas. “ It is a special moment. We are happy that our country has recognised the potential of A-VIEW”, said Prof.Bijlani. He added that more than 100 leading universities / institutions have expressed their interest to conduct regular online classes at their campuses using A-VIEW.

This national initiative is being funded by National Mission on Education (NME-ICT), which falls under the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. MHRD Additional secretary and NME-ICT Mission Director Shri N.K. Sinha is the visionary and chief coordinator of the project.
