Education Minister inaugurated Online Gurukul 27 March, 2012
Education Minister P. K. Abdu Rabb said Amrita University's Online Gurukul would enhance the employability skill of the students and thereby would help them to secure better job opportunities. "Usage of advanced technology in education sector is always a helping hand and Online Gurukul would be able to bridge the gap between education and employment."
He was inaugurating Amrita University's Online Gurukul at Mascot Hotel on March 27, 2012.
Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Director, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab, presided over the function and gave an overview on A-VIEW and Online Gurukul.
Online Gurukul is an ideal platform for college students to learn, share and enrich their knowledge. This is specifically meant to assist and empower needy students who are keen to learn. The program is available to all college students free of cost.
The weekly sessions are normally held between 3.00PM and 4 PM on every Tuesday. It is being transmitted through Amrita University’s award winning E-Learning platform A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive ELearning World), developed by Amrita E-Learning Research Lab.
"The pilot phase of the program is been conducted in Kerala. The program will be extended to other states soon," said Prof. Kamal Bijlani.
Education Minister honoured eminent career experts Dr. T. P. Sethumadhavan and Mr. Sunil D Kuruvilla on the occasion.
The Union Minister for Science and Technology Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh had announced the Free Online Tuition Programme during Mata Amritanandamayi’s (Chancellor of Amrita University) 58th birthday celebrations. The Amrita University developed this project in collaboration with IIT-Mumbai with active support of the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD).
50 colleges from various Universities in Kerala are benefited through weekly Online Gurukul sessions. Amrita University is soliciting more colleges to associate with this program. New colleges who are willing to join this program can contact : www.onlinegurukul.in for more details
