Engg teachers go back to school (The Times of India) 21 January 2010
MUMBAI: The teachers are now being taught a lesson. Engineering professors around the country are participating in a first-of-its-kind programme that allows them to enhance their skills under the tutelage of star IIT faculty. The online workshop on Database Management Systems, which started on December 13 and will end on Wednesday, is being led by S Sudarshan, a professor of IIT Bombay and the author of an international textbook on database systems. The technology and methodology for the project has been jointly developed by IIT-B and Amrita University, a press statement said.
During the workshop, lectures are being transmitted around the country through a satellite and the internet. "The class is similar to a first year class in IIT-B. The only difference is that it focuses on the teacher as the end user," said Kannan Moudgalya, a member of the standing committee of the National Mission on Education Through ICT, which is funding the project.
