Good manners inspire self confidence 06 March, 2012
Values influence your attitude and consequently influence your message and action
Shri Sunil D Kuruvilla, eminent career expert said many students don’t know how to behave, how to talk even though they have sound academic qualification. He said developing an impressive personality and pleasant manners will help a person to go a long way in his career as well as in his life.
He was interacting with the students from various colleges across Kerala as part of Online Gurukul weekly session on March 6, 2012 from Amritapuri campus.
The topic of the session was Manners and Etiquettes for Better Human Relations.
Know the difference
Shri Sunil stated that etiquette and manners are imperative to build up a successful life as well as career. “While both of these concepts are related to behavior, students should remember that they are slightly different,” he said.
Manners involve general behavioral guidelines, such as treating the elderly with respect and courtesy. Etiquette is a specific code of behavior. He added that the main idea behind these two concepts is - make others comfortable and happy.
Points to Ponder
- Always respect elders, listen to them, and learn
- Think before you speak
- Make meaningful introductions
- Use 'Thank you', 'Please', and 'You're welcome' in conversation
Answering to a question Shri Sunil said the students should learn the art of communication. “Today, most of the students don’t know how to talk at home, office and public places. So, they should learn and enhance their home, office and social etiquette. If you want to succeed, speak gently and communicate effectively,” he underlined.
Around 10 colleges attend the online interaction.
The goal of Online Gurukul is to assist and empower needy students. The classes are being transmitted through Amrita University's award winning E-Learning platform - A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World).
