Intend to build A-VIEW as top-notch software: Krish Gopalasamy 21-Sep-2011

As part of weekly discussions through A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World), under Ministry of Human Resource and Development's (MHRD) NME-ICT (Nation Mission on Education through Information through Communication Technology) an interactive session was held on "How to use A-VIEW and its effectiveness in conducting live classes" on 21st September 2011 from Amritapuri campus.

Shri Krish Gopalasamy, Associate Director, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab gave a detailed lecture and highlighted that numerous research activities are progressing in the lab to build A-VIEW as a world-class E-Learning software. "Our aim is to build up A-VIEW as user-friendly software with unique features. Our Research & Development team is developing new features to make classes more interactive and effective," he said.

More than 30 Universities, including KIMS University (Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University), Central University of Bihar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Gujarat Ayurved University and Islamic University of Science and Technology, from different parts of the country participated in the online discussion.

Answering to a question Shri Gopal said Universities and Colleges can set up A-VIEW easily as minimal infrastructure is required. "Downloading, installing and using A-VIEW are very simple tasks. With basic infrastructure facilities i.e. webcam, audio equipments and mike, A-VIEW can be operated. Now, A-VIEW is available in Android mobile phones also," he said.

Remarkably, A-VIEW can be operated via world's cheapest tablet nicknamed 'Aakash' soon.

Meanwhile Islamic University of Science and Technology asked if their audio/video break frequently during a live class, what should they do? Shri Gopal explained that breakage in audio/video happens mainly because of low bandwidth. Make sure there is enough bandwidth and if still the issue persists refresh the stream using the refresh button.

Spokesperson of Central University of Bihar, one of the participants, said that the discussion was useful. "Audio and Video clarity were really good. We appreciate A-VIEW team and MHRD for organizing such a programme."

A-VIEW is an E-Learning platform, developed by Amrita University's E-Learning Research Lab, which is state-of-the-art software for distance education and collaboration. It is available for free to all the educational institutes across India, and can be downloaded from website address, www.aview.in or send an email to aview@amrita.edu.
