As part of weekly discussions through A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World), conceived by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under NME-ICT (National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology) mission, an interactive online session was organized with Dr. Ranjan Bose of IIT Delhi on Virtual Labs on 14th September, 2011.

Dr. Ranjan Bose, one of the national coordinators of the Virtual Labs initiative (www.vlab.co.in), gave detailed lecture about Virtual Labs and explained how other Universities can participate in this program. While addressing the Universities, Dr. Ranjan Bose highlighted that one of the main objectives of the Virtual Lab program is to provide remote-access to Labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering. "These Virtual Labs would cater to students at the undergraduate level, post graduate level as well as to research scholars," he added. Dr. Bose emphasized that Virtual Labs help to share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise not available to users due to constraints of time and geographical distances.

Around 30 educational institutions participated in the online interaction including Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women, Coimbatore, Barkatullah University, Bhopal, Central University of Karnataka, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, National Institute of Technology Warangal and Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Bose demonstrated how Virtual Labs is functioning, its objectives and benefits. On the other hand, participants got an opportunity to watch an actual experiment being conducted in a remote lab and to observe the result.
